Most people aren’t born with a perfect smile or ideal bite. The more traditional metal braces remain one of the most trusted orthodontic treatments, providing predictable, lasting results for patients of all ages. At Jersey Orthodontic Centre, we use modern metal and gold braces designed for comfort, durability and effectiveness. Whether you’re a teen or an adult, metal braces offer a time-tested solution for creating a confident, healthy smile under the care of Dr McGill.
Although the most common time to begin orthodontic treatment is between the ages of 12 and 16, when most permanent teeth have erupted, adults can benefit just as much – it’s never too late to achieve a straighter smile. Metal braces can correct a wide range of orthodontic issues and are particularly good at correcting overbites and severe crowding.
Metal and gold braces use a system of brackets, archwires and small elastic bands to gradually shift your teeth into the desired position. The brackets are bonded to the front of each tooth and connected by an archwire (a shaped wire), which is adjusted periodically during your appointments to maintain progress.

Thanks to advances in technology, today’s metal braces are smaller, smoother and more comfortable than ever before. Younger patients can also personalise their braces with coloured elastic bands – a fun way to express themselves at each appointment.
If you’re considering traditional braces, we’re here to help you make the right decision for your smile. Contact Jersey Orthodontic Centre for a consultation with Dr McGill. We will assess your needs and recommend the ideal treatment plan.
