Appliance Fit
If aligners are chosen they are designed (done by Dr McGill), manufactured and shipped, which takes time so we usually advise booking the aligner fit appointment 4-6 weeks after you have confirmed your desire to begin. In contrast, fixed appliances are constructed and fitted at chairside so we can begin treatment at the first available appointment following your confirmation. At the appointment we will discuss care instructions and also provide you with an instruction video.
Dental Monitoring
We will also use novel technology to chart the progress of treatment between visits thus allowing us to prepare better for appointments. It also helps us identify breakages and is a way for you to communicate directly with Dr McGill and his clinical team. It works by using a special jig attached to your phone which takes standardised pictures of your teeth at specified intervals which are then uploaded to an encrypted and secure portal. Imbedded within its software are sophisticated algorithms which can assess your tooth position, tooth brushing and rate how efficiently your brace is working. This comes at no extra charge and we will explain more at your fitting appointment.
Regular Adjustments
Every two months or so we assess your progress face to face, though we may also engage through the Dental Monitoring app if you have reached targets early or if any issues are indentified. If you have a fixed appliance we will freshen and adjust your appliance and answer any questions you may have. These visits typically take about 20 minutes.
Brace Removal
Once treatment is complete, we remove your appliance and fit retainers to maintain your results. This appointment lasts 45–60 minutes.
Retainer Reviews
We schedule 1-2 short appointments over the next 12 months to check your retainers. Using Dental Monitoring we will ask for periodic scans to ensure the crucial first few months pass without incident.
